Laguna-Beach-Post-222--Laguna-Beach-CA

ALA California Unit 222 was surprised to receive an anonymous gift of $5,000 specifically designated for an air conditioning unit for their American Legion Family post home. The generous donation was then sub-granted to them by the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation.

“This grant will impact more than 50 local veterans and their families who attend many of our dinners and veterans events at our Legion Family post,” said Diane Connell, an Unit 222 officer. The funds were used to install a 3-ton ductless mini split system in the post dining room. “[Air conditioning] is a luxury the veterans in our community haven’t had since 1927, when the post was founded,” Connell continued.

In September 2017, the Legion Family hosted a dinner for the ALA Girls State and American Legion Boys State and their families, the first event using the new air conditioning system. “Attendees were very pleased to have this AC unit up and running for everyone’s comfort,” Connell said. “Please tell our anonymous donor, thank you!”

ALA units, districts/counties, or departments that have identified a source for grant funding from a foundation or corporation that requires the recipient to be a 501(c)(3) can have the ALA Foundation serve as the recipient. The ALA Foundation then, in turn, will sub-grant to the unit, district/county, or department according to the terms and conditions of the grantor.
